Welcome

Haere mai. A warm welcome to my Website and its pages with information and stories covering a number of my principal interests.

The idea of setting up a Website originated some years back when I developed an interest in family history and genealogy. Somewhat concerned with the lack of veracity of the data found on many genealogical sites and databases I had the good fortune to discover The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding© (“TNG”)a powerful way to manage and display your family tree on your own website, all without generating any static HTML. Instead, your information is stored in a database and the pages are created on demand. Coupled with a policy of using only sourced information gleaned from sites such as ancestry.com and Find my Past I believe I have a more effective way and efficient foundation for incorporating reliable data.

This led me on to extend my outreach and move into the Blog world with my family stories, which has helped enormously in creating the perfect extended family for establishing and growing an online Family Tree. No longer am I reliant on basic public sources such as Parish Records, War Service records, BDM records, Electoral Rolls, etc for data but am able to adopt a more investigative approach to prove data by analysis of Wills, Probate Records and in one case a Bill filed on 26 March, 1756 with the Right Lord Philip Earle of Hardwicke the Lord High Chancellor of Great Britain seeking redress for an unpaid amount owing under a Will. Also, I owe a great debt of gratitude to online newspaper collections offered by British Newspapers, Papers Past here in New Zealand and Trove in Australia.

As of March 2023, the Tree has just over 3,700 people, 1,795  men and 1,786 women from 1,287 families.

The earliest recorded birth is William Crumplehere born about 1560 and proven by the Wills of William (died 1614) and Marie Crumpelhere, the second wife of Richard, who died in Winterborne Kingston 1595. In his Will William asks that “my body be buried in the church litten of Kingston aforesaid a neere unto the place as my father was buried”. Taking this to a logical conclusion reveals the burial of Richard Crumpleher, 13 January 1595, Winterborne Kingston, as the only burial that would have met the criterion. Further, William as the son of Richard, is substantiated in Marie’s, Richard’s wife’s Will of 1595, which contains the passage: “I give to William Crumplehere my husband’s best coat and shirt.”

Currently (September 2017) we have 171 persons whose last name contains “Vine”, just under 200 “Crumpler” or variations, “Berry” 65, “Chalmers” 56 and “Edwards” 29. For privacy reasons, I have not ventured any further down than my generation. However there must be many numbers not yet included in the Tree. The Crumpler family entries would have the potential to raise numbers by maybe in excess of 200.

Access to the Genealogy site is by way of the top right sidebar Widget containing a photograph of the Vine Family, c1927. At rear my Father, William John and Thomas Alfred Noel; front l. to r. Patricia Drayson, Geoffrey William, their Mother Winifrede Annie nee Edwards and Eileen Winifrede.

Grandfather Sydney John had died in 1922, “Death due to War Service”. He had been gassed on the Western Front and unfortunately caught with weakened lungs at the tail end of the Influenza Pandemic.

Grandmother Winifrede Annie re-married in 1928 to Charles Francis Kruse and had one son Charles Edgar.

Having a website also allows me to record and discuss online history and issues related to my sporting interests Rowing, Rugby Football and Lawn Bowls, thus expanding my World far beyond my regular habitat.

My stories mentioned above may be accessed from the top horizontal navigation bar by way of the drop-down menus. I hope you will enjoy it.
